CHRISTMAS BASKET DELIVERY
TUALATIN VALLEY #2780ANNUAL BASKET DELIVERY
The Lodge has been delivering Christmas Basket to financially challenged families in our community since it was chartered. Annually We acquire names of families in our area from the clearing bureaus of Clackamas, Multnomah and Washington counties.Our members contribute money, food and their time to make this one of our major charitable activities of the year. Each year most of the toys are provided by the Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue dept.. It is notable that the "baskets" provided by this Lodge are "humongous" in size, containing, canned food, fresh vegetables and fruit, bread and stuffing, a frozen turkey and toys for all children. The "baskets" are sized to meet the size of the family and the toys are selected to meet gender and ages of the children. We believe these are the finest and most comprehensive baskets delivered by any organization in the area.On the Saturday immediately preceding Christmas members gather at the Lodge to fill the "baskets" and deliver them to the families. Typically, over 100 members and friends gather to make this event a success. Drivers, using their own vehicles, often make three or four trips to accomplish all of the deliveries.After completion of the project the Christmas Basket Committee hosts luncheon and refreshments for all participants.
2000 RESULTSTHIS YEAR WE DISTRIBUTED BASKETS TO 101 HOUSEHOLDS COMPRISING 242 ADULTS, 105 BOYS, 87 GIRLS AND 28 INFANTS, FOR A TOTAL OF 462 TOTAL PEOPLE. THE AREAS COVERED WERE TIGARD, TUALATIN, WEST LINN AND LAKE OSWEGO. WE DELIVERED $5,600 IN FOOD, $5,960 IN TOYS, PROVIDED BY TUALATIN FIRE AND RESCUE. WE HAD 585 HOURS OF DONATED TIME AND 950 MILES DRIVEN BY MEMBERS. THE TOTAL VALUE OF OUR EFFORTS AMOUNTS TO $19,190. THE AREAS COVERED WERE TIGARD, TUALATIN, WILSONVILLE AND LAKE OSWEGO.WE DELIVERED $4,900 IN FOOD, $5,490 IN TOYS, PROVIDED BY TUALATIN FIRE AND RESCUE, INCLUDING 2 BICYCLES. WE HAD 555 HOURS OF DONATED TIME AND 880 MILES DRIVEN BY MEMBERS. THE TOTAL VALUE OF OUR EFFORTS AMOUNTS TO $18,202.
